Technical Tour

In conjunction with PIPOC 2025, technical tour will be held on Monday, 17 November 2025 to the selected destinations for its participants. The tours enable participants to experience and gain new knowledge in various aspects of oil palm industry in Malaysia. These are the options of PIPOC 2025 technical tour:

OPTION A: PLANTATION

1) SD Guthrie Carey Island, Selangor

SD Guthrie one of the world’s largest producers of certified sustainable palm oil. From the trading houses of colonial Singapore 200 years ago, they have survived wars, economic upheavals, and pandemics to become one of the world's largest producers of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO). SD Guthrie are leaders in innovation, employing some of the best minds in the industry to produce superior quality products, serving customers across the world. Their upstream and downstream operations are fully integrated, allowing them to maximise efficiencies, creating better value for all their stakeholders. Throughout their palm oil value chain, over 80,000 valued employees drive their sustainable growth, taking pride in a heritage synonymous with excellence.

2) Tun Razak Agricultural Research and Development Centre (PPPTR), Jerantut, Pahang

Pusat Penyelidikan Pertanian Tun Razak (PPPTR) proudly commemorates its 55th anniversary, marking over half a century of dedicated commitment to advancing Malaysia's agricultural sector. Established in 1968 in Jerantut, Pahang, PPPTR has evolved into a cornerstone of agricultural research and development nationwide. As a pivotal force behind FGV's research and innovation initiatives, PPPTR has addressed crucial needs through science-driven agricultural innovation, pioneering advancements in planting materials, agronomy, integrated pest management, digitalization and mechanization in enhancing operational efficiency. Today, PPPTR stands as one of Southeast Asia's largest and most esteemed oil palm research centers. It is also Malaysia's leading producer of high-quality oil palm germinated seeds, exemplified by the award-winning FGV Yangambi, which sets industry benchmarks.

OPTION B: MPOB RESEARCH STATION

The MPOB Kluang Research Station, nestled in the heart of Kluang, Johor, has been a key player in oil palm research since its establishment in 1979. Spanning 841 hectares, with an impressive 90% dedicated to research, it is home to the world’s largest oil palm germplasm collection. The station’s focus includes oil palm breeding, agronomy, and enhancing oil palm crops.

With a diverse collection of Elaeis guineensis, Elaeis oleifera, and exotic palms, the germplasm serves as an invaluable genetic resource for oil palm breeding. This helps expand the genetic base of the crop, which, until now, has been quite narrow. From this rich collection, 14 unique Planting Series (PS) have been developed, including varieties like dwarf palms, high carotene palms, high Vitamin E palms, and long-stalked palms. In addition to breeding, the station offers expert guidance through the Oil Palm Agronomy Centre (OPAC), providing consultations on the best agronomic practices, including fertilization recommendations based on foliar, soil, and fertilizer analyses.

But that’s not all—MPOB Kluang is also a hub for advisory services through its Smallholder Extension and Certification Division and Enforcement and Licensing Division. Smallholders can easily access these services to address challenges with their crops and receive the support they need. The station truly serves as a one-stop resource, making research, innovation, and expert advice readily available for everyone in the industry.

OPTION C: FELDA GLOBAL VENTURE (FGV) INNOVATION CENTRE

The FGV Innovation Centre (FGVIC) in Bandar Enstek, Negeri Sembilan, aspires to establish itself as a leading tissue culture facility dedicated to delivering innovative agricultural solutions and services. The centre specializes in producing oil palm clones with specific traits and focuses on biomolecular marker research, which led to the introduction of our latest Super High Oil Yield Clonal, Yangambi Platinum. This clone delivers a high OER, producing an average of 30% more oil per hectare compared to commercial DxP materials. Additionally, FGVIC specializes in various fields, including bioinformatics, geoinformatics, beneficial microbes, bio solutions, food technology, and research in feed and industrial technology which are all aimed at promoting sustainability-driven innovations.
